Nurturing our agricultural roots : Fair trade for our farmers

“In the winter’s chill or the summer’s heat,

A farmer works so the world can eat.”

If you have good food on your plate, you must thank a farmer. If you have clothes on your back, you must thank a farmer. If you drank milk or tea or coffee today, you must thank a farmer. Farmers are the backbone of our economy, working tirelessly round the year. It is an unfortunate truth that in most cases, the remuneration they reap isn’t even half the hard work they sow!

We are committed to changing that.

All farmers are special but we can vouch for the farmers at Mangal Organics who are going the extra mile to put the highest quality of organic food on your plate. Organic farming is a labour-extensive process and our farmers undergo rigorous training to learn this essential vocation. Their hard work is met with direct support from our side in various ways!

1. Our Farmers are paid ‘Partners’

Our farmers are equity shareholders in the company. Whatever the company makes, the company shares with them. We rightly refer to our farmers as ‘partners’ as they are paid premium, competitive amounts in remuneration and kind. Farmers are essential workers and we ensure their compensation matches the importance of their work. Underpaid labour has no place in our organisation with fair wages being paid to every farmer who works with us.

2. Empowering and educating the future generation

Children are the future of this country and at Mangal Organics, we practice what we preach. Construction and availability of proper spaces for schools in rural areas has been a major concern in rural India and is also the reason why education is considered a luxury there. The organisation has developed infrastructure in order to educate the children of the farmers. We’ve built schools and classrooms to ensure the children get the education they deserve against all odds. One of our goals is holistic development and the same applies to our farmers’ development. We believe in a holistic elevation of their lives.

3. Sanitizer distribution among farmers amidst the Covid crisis

In the initial stage of the Covid pandemic, there seemed to be an accurate shortage of sanitizers with the public hoarding them in large numbers. During this time of mass hysteria, the organisation distributed sanitizers to the farmers and their families in order to safeguard their health and ensure adequate protection against the novel Coronavirus. Sanitisers are an essential commodity during a pandemic and Mangal Organics ensured that our farmers are prepared well in this trying time.

4. Encouraging farmers to give their best

A well known and attested truth is that a person who is appreciated always does more than what is expected and when it comes to appreciating our farmers, we leave no stone unturned. Our farmers enjoy access to our in house manufactured bio-agricultural inputs, seeds, decomposed fertilisers as well as extensive financing at every step of the process. We’re committed to raise the standard of living of the farming community and uplifting them through empowering them to create sustainable livelihoods. Our model operates on training them when we employ them and co-creating thriving farming markets by educating them in this trade.

If the country is a human body, then the farming community is the backbone and without taking care of it, the body will collapse. As believers in the organic, we will continue to support, elevate and nourish the community that nourishes all of us.
